State of the industry address: A transatlantic perspective

Abstract
Considering prescribing trends is a useful exercise because it allows practitioners to compare what they are doing in clinical practice with national and international trends. In this session, current information concerning contact lens prescribing in the UK and USA will be presented by two acknowledged experts in prescribing trend analysis. Dr Philip Morgan is Research Manager at Eurolens Research; together with Professor Nathan Efron, he has devised and conducted an extensive, accurate and highly regarded annual survey of UK prescribing trends every year for the past 4 years. The most recent Eurolens survey was conducted from January 1999 to March 1999, and the very first time that these results will be presented will be at this meeting. As Editor of Contact Lens Spectrum, Dr Joe Barr has access to the latest prescribing trends in the USA. Prescribing trend data from the two nations will be presented, compared, explained and analysed, and future trends will be predicted.

Citation countsare sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science citation databases.
These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science generally from 1980 onwards.
