Accurate and reliable identification of heavy vehicle loads, especially dynamic moving vehicle loads, is extremely important for pavement and bridge system. An overview on moving force identification from bridge responses is provided in this paper, which aims at current knowledge on parameter affecting of performance of four moving force identification methods proposed in recent years. Numerical simulation, laboratory verification and field validation have shown that all the four identification methods can effectively identify moving loads on bridges. However, there exist still many challenges and obstacles to be overcome, some further studies are necessary in the future.
