Abstract

A finite element (FE) model for the dynamic analysis of the Tsing Ma Hridge is developed. With the FE model developed, the dynamic response of the Tsing Ma Bridge under railway loading is studied and compared with the data recorded by strain gauges installed at the bridge-deck section. The results show that the stress spectrum at concern locations calculated by FE method (FEM) agree well with the measured data. The critical location of fatigue damage can be identified by the FE dynamic response analysis for the bridge. The developed model may be used to calculate the global structural stresses of the bridge and used as the base of the fatigue damage analysis of the bridge.
