Numeracy Programs: Implications for the teaching and learning of mathematics
Ewing, Bronwyn F. (2001) Numeracy Programs: Implications for the teaching and learning of mathematics. In 2001: A Mathematical Odyssey - 38th Annual Conference of th Mathematics Association of Victoria, 6-7 December, Monash University, Melbourne.
This presentation draws on teacher experiencies in the classroom and the practical implications of implementing a numeracy program. With the current focus on the importance of support for numeracy in the primary years, there have been increased demands placed on teachers. Together with these demands comes the question of whether numeracy programs are serving the needs of the students they are designed for, or whether they cloud over more serious issues related to effective teaching and learning of mathematics
