Abstract

Near- and mid-infrared spectra of uranyl selenite mineral haynesite, (UO2)3(SeO3)2(OH)2.5H2O, were studied and assigned. Observed bands were assigned to the stretching vibrations of uranyl and selenite units, stretching, bending and libration modes of water molecules and hydroxyl ions, and δ U-OH bending vibrations. U-O bond lengths in uranyl and hydrogen bond lengths O-H...O were inferred from the spectra.
