Queensland Health Prophetical: Energising Through Conflict

Makeham, Paul B., Portmann, Geoffrey T., Comans, Christine A., & Gattenhof, Sandra J. (2008) Queensland Health Prophetical: Energising Through Conflict. [Film/Video]

“Following the success of previous collaborations with Queensland Health, the Lead Investigator was commissioned by Queensland Health’s Workplace Culture and Leadership Centre (WCLC) to research and produce an original screen drama addressing the topic ‘Energising Through Conflict’. This dramatic scenario would serve as the principal learning object in a series of professional development seminars delivered to senior Queensland Health clinicians, managers and directors. In particular, the WCLC sought to facilitate senior staff in exploring new ways of understanding and responding to conflict in the workplace. The 19 minute screen (DVD) drama which resulted was collaboratively devised by staff from QUT Drama using an original Applied Theatre technique known as a ‘Prophetical’. This particular Prophetical ‘Energising Through Conflict’, set in the fictitious Peterston Public Hospital, centres on a series of events leading to a critical incident involving a young patient. The Prophetical was filmed, edited and formatted for DVD, and implemented as the principal provocation in a series of seminars facilitated for senior QH management. In this way, it served as a core component in a broader program of culture change designed to identify and redress systemic elements of acknowledged workplace dysfunction in the QH organisation. Evaluation by the commissioning body of the Prophetical’s design and impact on learning was extremely positive, as was feedback from participant groups.”

Citation counts are sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science® citation databases.

These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science® generally from 1980 onwards.
