ICT for creative engagement : participatory design and ethnographic action research
Watkins, Jerry J. & Tacchi, Jo A. (2008) ICT for creative engagement : participatory design and ethnographic action research. In HCI for Community and International Development Workshop, 5-6 April 2008, Florence, Italy.
Abstract
This paper describes two current applied research projects which investigate the design and implementation of ICT-based participatory content creation programs by community multimedia centres and similar organisations in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka. These projects are informed by both Participatory Design and Ethnographic Action Research methodologies. The application of these methodologies has resulted in an innovative creative relationship in which embedded local researchers use their ethnographic data to inform participatory content creation projects by community media organisations. It is hoped that this relationship may provide a sustainable creative engagement system incorporating underserved communities and ICT infrastructure initiatives.

Citation countsare sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science citation databases.
These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science generally from 1980 onwards.
Citations counts from the Google Scholar™ indexing service can be viewed at the linked Google Scholar™ search.
Full-text downloads:
Full-text downloadsdisplays the total number of times this work’s files (e.g., a PDF) have been downloaded from QUT ePrints as well as the number of downloads in the previous 365 days. The count includes downloads for all files if a work has more than one.
