Accented Body : the body as site and in site.

Description

Accented Body was a dance-led research project initiated during a creative development process in 2005. It culminated in a major public outcome in July 2006 that was staged across six Brisbane sites, with further nodes in Seoul and London. The final performances were held during the Brisbane International Festival and involved six interconnected performance installations created by thirty key artists from Australia, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and the United Kingdom – working in the disciplines of dance, music, media and digital performance Accented Body was developed, directed and produced by Cheryl Stock in collaboration with six interdisciplinary teams, who each responded to a detailed creative/research brief based on notions of connectivity and the investigation of the body as ‘site and in site’. Through its process and products Accented Body initiated new ways of engaging with interdisciplinary, intercultural and interactive creative practices in large-scale outdoor environments by providing accessible, immersive promenade experiences for its audiences. It also provided a sustainable model for extended collaboration between the arts industry and academic research through its substantial cash support, resources secured and expertise donated from all sectors working to achieve mutually beneficial outcomes.
