Imperialism in Hong Kong
Henderson, Deborah J. & Jarvis, Susan (1994) Imperialism in Hong Kong. In Mackerras, Colin (Ed.) Imperialism, colonialism and nationalism in East Asia: history through documents. Longman Australia, Melbourne, 71 -106.
This chapter is about the impact of imperialism on Hong Kong. It examines the way the British government gained control of Hong Kong and the nature of its administration until 1994. It also examines the the impact of the Japanese invasion and occupation during the second World war. This chapter is a documentary resource for senior secondary students and teachers of Asian History. It incorporates a narrative commentary of key events and movements with a range of carefully selected and researched documents. Questions, activities, value dilemmas and suggestions for further research encourage students to think critically about the sources presented.
