In a digital age, the skills required to undertake an oral history project have changed dramatically. For community groups, this shift can be new and exciting, but can also invoke feelings of anxiety when there is a gap in the skill set. Addressing this gap is one of Oral History Association of Australia, Queensland (OHAA Qld) main activities. This paper reports on the OHAA Qld chapter’s oral history workshop program, which was radically altered in 2011.

|Additional Information:||The OHAA Queensland chapter has a strong history of practice in delivering oral history workshops for its members and the wider community by relying heavily on the same few committee members to facilitate. Participants range in expertise widely from individuals interested in interviewing a family member, to organisations and even professional consultants wanting to glean expertise before embarking on a funded project. In a digital age, skills required to undertake a project have also changed dramatically beyond requiring a notepad, pen and a tape recorder. In late 2010 after a couple of years of being forced to typically respond to the growing demand for community-based training workshops in an ad hoc ‘whenever we have time’ approach, Klaebe overviewed past workshops, taking into consideration the valuable feedback collated by Suzanne Mulligan to (with OHAA Qld colleagues Ariella Van Luyn and Lena Volkova) structurally design a set of community workshops that cover five fundamental topics, that can be rolled out by key committee members in a sequential manner throughout the year, biannually. This presentation will report on the program’s success (we hope) to date, as well as outline content and facilitation training mechanisms introduced to ensure the program can be sustainably delivered by the Qld chapter.|
