Abstract

The enhancing competition of marketing requires product designers collaboratively develop outputs with high quality in a short lead-time. Concerning whole-lifecycle product development, from analysis of customer requirements, concept design, detail design, to product performance evaluation, the development of a successful product is achieved through cooperation of various design teams in different design stages. In this situation, a wholelife- cycle product information model is necessary for production engineers to develop products efficiently. In this paper, based on STEP-AP (Application Protocol) development method, a scheme of neutral information modeling for whole-life-cycle product is proposed. An application case is stated in detail. The general rules of product information modeling are summarized. The studies provides feasible scheme for product information exchange and sharing within collaborative product development and concurrent engineering environment.
