Personality and speeding: Some policy implications
Tay, Richard S., Champness, Philip G., & Watson, Barry C. (2003) Personality and speeding: Some policy implications. IATSS Research, 27(1), pp. 68-74.
Abstract
While there has been extensive research on the effect of sensation seeking on risky driving, relatively little research has been conducted on
Type-A personality. The motivations for speeding are likely to be different for each group and these differences have important implications for the
design, implementation and expected efficacy of road safety countermeasures. This paper examines the influence of sensation seeking and Type-A
behavior pattern on speeding behaviour. A sample of 139 staff and students in an Australian university were surveyed in July 2001 to gather information
on their gender, age, personality and self-reported speeding behaviour. The data were analysed using correlations and analysis of variance procedures.
Finally, some implications for road safety are discussed.

Citation countsare sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science citation databases.
These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science generally from 1980 onwards.
Citations counts from the Google Scholar™ indexing service can be viewed at the linked Google Scholar™ search.
Full-text downloads:
Full-text downloadsdisplays the total number of times this work’s files (e.g., a PDF) have been downloaded from QUT ePrints as well as the number of downloads in the previous 365 days. The count includes downloads for all files if a work has more than one.
