There is growing international concern with the increasing prevalence and severity of mental health problems experienced by university students. The reluctance to seek professional support, the high level of disability associated with psychological distress, the limited on-campus treatment options, and the cost of non intervention all provide strong rationales for considering the broader context of student wellbeing. Mental health and wellbeing results from an interaction of biological, psychological, and social factors. As the primary part of a university student’s psychological and social experience for a number of years, most frequently at a critical developmental period of young adulthood, the entirety of the university environment influences health and wellbeing.
