On 25 August 2015, the Queensland Government announced the development of new senior assessment and tertiary entrance systems, commencing with students who enter Year 11 in 2018. Features of the new systems will include:
A senior assessment model that combines school-based assessment developed and marked by teachers, with common external assessment developed and marked by the Queensland Curriculum and Assessment Authority (QCAA)
New processes that strengthen the quality and comparability of school-based assessment
A transition from the existing Overall Position (OP) tertiary rank to an Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR).
The Accreditation project: Foundation module is designed to enhance teachers’ assessment literacy in preparation for the new senior assessment model. It is the first of a series of professional development modules that will allow teachers to participate in the new processes of endorsement and calibration/confirmation that will quality assure school-based assessment.
The Foundation Module: Assessment Literacy (Phase 1) project is due for completion by June 2016 and underpins all future accreditation modules.
Impact and interest:
