Abstract

This is an invited keynote presentation presented at the Independent Schools Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education Network and Curriculum Day. Mainstream educational practices are based on beliefs about knowing and being that can be marginalising for Indigenous students. This keynote presentation shares research that aims to develop a model for multimodal and digital literacy pedagogies that embeds Indigenous ways of knowing and being. The research highlights a case of exemplary educational practice, with outcomes that opened spaces for culturally-negotiated, multimodal and digital practices to empower Indigenous Australian students.

Impact and interest:
