Australia’s two major retailers, Coles and Woolworths, already have vested interests in fuel, convenience, liquor, hardware, hotels, insurance, financial services and more recently, travel. A continuing frustration for both these retail giants is their inability to follow global trends and enter the pharmacy sector. Even as far back as 2000, Woolworths, under the stewardship of Roger Corbett, lobbied strongly for the opportunity to branch into pharmacy retailing.
