Abstract

Better information on crash involvement and safety performance by different sectors of the trucking industry is needed to provide a more objective basis for policy analysis. At staged study first investigated the availability and applicability of insurance data for analysis of truck crash involvement by industry sector. It then obtained and analysed insurance data to provide information on crash involvement by industry sector and, where possible, crash location Results of analysis of the data are reported. The study concludes with comments on the strengths and weaknesses of these types of data sets for study purposes and some remarks on the challenges in using this data and opportunities the data could provide for analysis.
