Abstract

The Korean Wave is neither a fortuitous incident nor a result of the governmental master-plan, but a complex concoction of actors of various types and strata. This chapter first outlines the development of the Korean Wave in the domain of TV dramas and contextualizes its evolutionary process by examining both macro and micro factors. It then further extrapolates the trajectory of the Korean Wave within the paradigm of convergence and concludes with an emphasis on the need for reconceptualising the cultural industries in this era of digital ubiquity, as epitomised in the case of the Korean Wave.
