Understanding the data
- A referrer is a website that links to an abstract or directly to an attached file. A referral is counted when a user follows that link and downloads an attached file. No referrer indicates a download that was not initiated from a link on a website, e.g., by entering the URL directly in the browser or following a browser bookmark/favourite, or that the browser was configured not to report the referring website.
- Non-search referrers excludes recognised search engines.
- A download is the opening and/or saving of a PDF document or other file, including multimedia and zip files, attached to a record.
