Stori Bilong Emelda Lomah - Yumi Sanap Strong

Emelda Lomah is a young human rights defender. She faced challenges in her community when her uncle was accused by a witch doctor of being a sorcerer. She went with her family to see the witch doctor to disprove her statements. As a human rights defender Emelda stepped in to ensure that her uncle’s rights were respected. Stori Bilong Emelda Lomah was produced as part of the Yumi Sanap Strong initiative, a community led initiative that emerged from an action research project undertaken by Queensland University of Technology in partnership with the University of Goroka and community-based partner organisations. The project develops communication strategies and materials to address sorcery accusation related violence in Papua New Guinea. The community partner organisation for this digital story was the Nazareth Centre for Rehabilitation in Bougainville, Papua New Guinea.
