Description
On 25 May 2021, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk delivered on her election promise and introduced the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill 2021 (the Bill) into the Queensland parliament. This is the first voluntary assisted dying (VAD) legislation to be tabled in Queensland, and follows recent reforms in Victoria, Western Australia, Tasmania, and South Australia. The Bill permits eligible individuals to access medication to cause their death at a time of their choosing.
The Bill will be debated in parliament in September and subject to a conscience vote. Given the growing number of Australian jurisdictions that have legalised VAD, it appears likely the Bill will pass. However, due to the complex questions surrounding VAD, a key issue for the parliamentary debates is not just whether to legalise VAD, but what form the law will take.

Citation counts are sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science® citation databases.
These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science® generally from 1980 onwards.
Citations counts from the Google Scholar™ indexing service can be viewed at the linked Google Scholar™ search.
Full-text downloads:
Full-text downloads displays the total number of times this work’s files (e.g., a PDF) have been downloaded from QUT ePrints as well as the number of downloads in the previous 365 days. The count includes downloads for all files if a work has more than one.
