Player experience during interdependent and cooperative gameplay

(2022) Player experience during interdependent and cooperative gameplay. PhD thesis, Queensland University of Technology.

Description

This thesis aimed to further research in the field of video games by examining player experience (PX) during interdependent and cooperative gameplay. Overall, results suggested that co-located interdependent gameplay may improve aspects of the player experience, particularly enjoyment, flow and social connectedness, but has little effect on group dynamics and the way in which people interact in the real world.

These benefits seem to plateau or diminish when playing online with strangers or in large groups. These findings may allow game developers to make more informed design decisions when creating social games.

Citation counts are sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science® citation databases.

These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science® generally from 1980 onwards.

Citations counts from the Google Scholar™ indexing service can be viewed at the linked Google Scholar™ search.
