Description

Proof investigates themes of mental health and gender equality in the field of mathematics. Through the theatrical story of two daughters dealing the death of their mathematician farther the work explores the tensions of family politics, grief and gender bias. Staged 20 years after the original Broadway presentation, this production refocuses modern audiences on the ongoing gender gap and the persistence bias that is faced in the STEM fields.

The aural scenography of the production is created through the original composition and sound design that explores tropes of love, loss, and metal fragility. Created through application of fractal mathematics as a compositional technique the simple musical motifs repeat and transform through reptation to evolve into immersive atmospheres, mimicking the beauty and complexity of mathematics in nature. Utilising contemporary compositional and production techniques the sonic elements blur the line between music and soundscape as a means to distort the boundaries between reality and imagination of the theatrical world, echoing the struggles of the human characters psyche.

Citation counts are sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science® citation databases.

These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science® generally from 1980 onwards.

Citations counts from the Google Scholar™ indexing service can be viewed at the linked Google Scholar™ search.
