Description
This thesis reveals that family-owned businesses in Australia can achieve financial success through various governance strategies, regardless of their age or size. It challenges common beliefs by showing that older, established family firms actually thrive with less formal and more flexible governance structures. In contrast, younger family businesses do better with smaller, less formal governance arrangements. A key finding is the significant impact of having the same person as both CEO and board chair, which requires careful balancing with the level of board independence to ensure profit growth.
