Description

This research adopts an exploratory case study to investigate the alignment between an English Language Academic Support (ELAS) course and students’ needs in English Medium Instruction at a Sri Lankan university. This research demonstrates the potential of developing an English for Academic Purposes course by embedding disciplinary knowledge to address students’ needs. Themes from teacher and student data were analysed and corroborated with the course syllabus to identify key findings on students’ views and experiences in the ELAS course. They were interpreted using constructive alignment framework advocated by Biggs and his colleagues and concepts in English as a Second Language.

Citation counts are sourced monthly from Scopus and Web of Science® citation databases.

These databases contain citations from different subsets of available publications and different time periods and thus the citation count from each is usually different. Some works are not in either database and no count is displayed. Scopus includes citations from articles published in 1996 onwards, and Web of Science® generally from 1980 onwards.
